Western Somerset Substance Abuse Prevention Services
The Western Somerset Substance Abuse Prevention Program is provided by
Youth and Family Services under the umbrella of the Somerset County
Association of Resource Providers. The program targets the 18-24 yr. old age
group in Western
Somerset County.
Using a three-pronged approach, the prevention program focuses on:
· The Healthy Workplace
This workplace based training offers a series of substance abuse
prevention interventions to reduce unsafe drinking, illegal drug use and
prescription drug abuse while encouraging individuals to improve health
practices.
· The Responsible Beverage Server
In cooperation with local law enforcement this training targets
convenience store clerks involved in alcohol sales, bar tenders and other
servers of alcoholic beverages. The objective is to prevent underage drinking
and prevent service to intoxicated adults.
· Community Mobilization to Reduce High
Risk Drinking
Using a multi-component community based approach,
this long term planning model seeks to alter alcohol use patterns such as
underage access to alcohol, drinking and driving, binge drinking and other
substance abuse related problems.
