The Family Support Program (Community
Intervention Program) is a statewide initiative designed to address child
abuse and neglect throughout the state. The Family Support Program serves
families that reside in Somerset
County. Families must
be referred by the Department of Human Services/Child Protective
Services(DHS/CPS). Families being referred have had allegations of
child abuse or neglect reported to DHS/CPS. The DHS/CPS will not be opening
the case due to severity of allegations being low to moderate risk, therefore
resulting in referral to the Family Support Program. The first priority of
the program is to assess safety to the children. A Safety/Risk Assessment
will be completed with the family. The case manager will then assist the
family in accessing services in the community that will enable them to
provide a safe and nurturing home. Services are relatively short term, no
longer than 6 months. Services provided by the Family Support Program are
Medicaid reimbursable or free to families who are not covered by Mainecare.
